Together we are at home

"Together We Are Home" is an officially chosen theme for Children's Book Week 2023 and was awarded a Vlag & Wimpel prize in 2021. What makes a home truly home? It's much more than just a house, a window, a door, a rug. The people you love make a house a home.
Stephanie Parsley Ledyard's poetic picture book, featuring the warm, bold artwork of Pixar animator Chris Sasaki, explores the world of moving. Leaving the place you've always called home can be daunting. But the family discovers that it's the people around you who truly make you feel at home. Jaap Robben's beautifully translated story is just as captivating.
From the Griffeljury jury report: "The picture book's tone is pleasantly subdued and nurturing; the language is gentle. 'At home is the neighbor who shares a light with you in the dark.'" The deep, earthy colors create a pleasantly inclusive atmosphere and, moreover, beautifully complement the universal feeling expressed by the story. Stephanie Parsley Ledyard's message is pleasantly reassuring in its simplicity.
Missing is sad, but in the new home the girl quickly finds the exciting, the familiar again, and that's all because she lives there with the people she loves, because: 'Together we are home.'
