Relaxed Motherhood | TIPS FROM LAURA LOUISE, THE ONLINE YOGA TEACHER
3 tips to create more relaxation during motherhood
It's a full-time and part-time job rolled into one: motherhood. A role that's incredibly rewarding, but can also be exhausting. The duality is nowhere as pronounced as in parenthood. You see time passing by, and on the other hand, it slips through your fingers. In this blog post, Laura Louise gives you three tips to avoid losing yourself in motherhood.
Look. You want the best for your children. We all believe that. And you do everything based on that strong motherly love. But does that mean you should just keep running yourself ragged? We don't think so. Because, to borrow the airplane metaphor: you have to put on your own oxygen mask first, before you can help others.
So it's in the best interest of your family, your partner, and yourself to take good care of yourself. Because the better you feel, the better you can care for those around you.
But how do you do that when you consistently seem to be short of hours during the day?
Tip 1 – Choose an accessible way to relax
As a new mom, a day at the sauna sounds wonderful. Or how about a sleepover or a festival? But being away from home all day can be daunting. Or finding a babysitter for your child(ren) can be a challenge. So choose an accessible option that suits you. Do you love dancing? Dance in the living room to your favorite music. Take a creative workshop in your neighborhood. Often, you'll only be away from home for an hour or two. Or just sit alone with a book in a coffee shop. We bet you'll relax instantly!
Tip 2 – Make relaxing a habit
We often tend to only relax when all other chores are done. And that's a shame. Because by making relaxation a habit, life becomes lighter and more enjoyable. So start your day right with a moment of relaxation for yourself. Even if it's just having a cup of tea outside in the garden. Or reading a chapter in a book. This way, you make relaxation a habit. Relaxation doesn't have to be grand and sweeping—it can be, of course. But often we lose ourselves in the mundane, causing us to completely forget to relax.
Tip 3 – Do it together
If you find it difficult to relax regularly, it's a good idea to do it together. For example, with a good friend. But relaxing with your partner is also a good idea. Book a massage together, attend a retreat specifically for mothers, or plan a day off with your family. Doing it together often makes it easier to stick to it. You've made an agreement not only with yourself, but also with the other person.
Laura Louise, The Online Yoga Teacher, is happy to help you find more relaxation in your day. "I know better than anyone what it's like to be busy. Because besides being a mom, I also have my own business. I sometimes say that being active is the new sitting."
But do you really have to spend hours on the yoga mat? Laura Louise doesn't think so. "Of course, it's wonderful to find more than an hour for yourself every day. But it's simply not feasible for new mothers. That's why I help with self-care yoga. Because it's better to have 10 minutes for yourself instead of zero minutes."

Relaxation for Moms: 10 Quick Ways You Can Implement Right Now
I've also listed ten ways you can start today! Relaxation is truly something for everyone. Often, you just have to give yourself permission. And with these simple moments of relaxation, you can make it incredibly easy!
1. Take an online yoga class: You can easily take a yoga class from home. I have a free 60-minute self-care yoga class waiting for you! You'll receive it free in your email.
2. Short meditation: Take 5 minutes to meditate while the children are busy with an activity. Use a meditation app for guidance or put on some relaxing music.
3. Focus on your breathing: You don't have to change your breathing. But by focusing on it, you'll notice your breathing becomes easier and deeper. For example, do a few minutes of deep breathing exercises while unloading the dishwasher or waiting while preparing dinner.
4. Enjoy your tea or coffee in silence: Take a break to sit quietly and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee without distractions. I prefer sitting in the garden!
5. Mini-walk : Take a short walk around the house or in the garden while the children are napping or playing.
6. Listen to music or a podcast: Put on your favorite music or an interesting podcast while you're doing some tidying around the house.
7. Write in a journal: Take a few minutes to write down your thoughts and feelings in a journal. This can help clear your mind. Do you find it difficult to write because you don't know what to write? Join in with meditative writing. You'll receive an inspiring prompt to journal each day.
"I know better than anyone what it's like to be busy. Because besides being a mom, I also have my own business. Being on is the new sitting, I sometimes say."
8. Cuddle Time: Take some time to quietly cuddle with your children. This can be relaxing for both you and your children.
9. A warm bath or relaxing shower: If you have time, take a warm bath or shower. Don't rush. Feel the water flowing over your body. And again, focus on your breathing.
10. Take up an old-fashioned craft: Do something small for yourself like knitting, crocheting, or another hobby for a few minutes whenever you have the chance. Crafts, in particular, are a way to relax. Because your hands and mind are focused on the work, you can't have time for other thoughts for a while.
